The Former President's Framework of Punishment and Favor

The ex-president's insatiable appetite for revenge has rapidly morphed into a structured system. Over the year since his election, the leader's anger and caprices have taken on the form of administrative measures in a manner reminiscent to historical dictatorial regimes. Federal figures who resist his demands are summarily removed and replaced by supporters. Political figures who confront him risk legal action, judicial process and sanctions. Adversaries have been categorized under administration directives as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “anti-capitalist”, and threatened with criminal charges as “terrorists”.

Federal Agencies Remade

Every instance involving legal action of political opponents and leniency for loyalists demonstrates its own unique features. However, notwithstanding their particular nature, they embody manifestations of what has emerged as a systematic technique. Those episodes are far from random. Trump's removal of federal prosecutors and FBI personnel, accompanied by his installation of devotees in key positions, started quickly, soon developed a regularity, and has now been shaped into a regime. The justice department and the law enforcement agency have been restructured into ideological agencies under the president's direct command to execute his directives. Injustice has been made routine. It constitutes the system of punishment.

Management is more concerned with targeting the chief's perceived enemies than they are with defending our public welfare.

Internal the Apparatus

The origin of this mechanism has been exposed in the legal complaint of three previous top FBI agents filed in September in the US district court in DC against agency head a senior appointee and top lawyer another official for illegal termination in “a campaign of revenge against Plaintiffs for what administration figures judged to be a failure to demonstrate sufficient political loyalty”. In the complaint that Brian Driscoll, the ex- temporary head, details a exchange in which Patel “publicly confessed the impropriety of his behavior”.

Driscoll had tried to shield FBI agents from being fired, the complaint claims. The director informed him that “they” – understood by him to be the White House and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to fire all those who they considered as having been involved in a criminal investigation against Trump. The filing continues: “Patel stated that he had to dismiss the personnel his bosses told him to fire, because his ability to hold his own position depended on the ouster of the agents who handled cases involving the leader. Patel commented that there was no way he or Driscoll could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the bureau tried to incarcerate the President in prison and he remembers.’” When he told him he was violating the FBI's own regulations, the director allegedly said “he knew that and he was aware the nature of the summary firings were probably improper”.

Extensive Consequences

Since his reported acknowledgment to the official, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and reorganized for Trump's revenge apparatus. Multiple of the agency's senior executives were terminated or compelled to leave in the initial period of the administration. Roughly 4,500 legal professionals at the justice department have accepted a “voluntary departure plan”. No fewer than seven DoJ lawyers, among them those in the southern district of New York, stepped down in dissent over what they regarded as partisan influence in withdrawing the corruption case against the city leader, a political figure, in exchange for his collaboration with Trump's federal agency arrests of foreign nationals. The public integrity section of DoJ, which handles corruption cases, has been reduced to a handful of lawyers. The rights protection unit has been decimated: the majority of its employees has departed. 33% of executives at the justice department have quit. The unit enforcing ecological regulations has seen departures of 50% its leadership.

Rewards and Penalties

Concerning the Adams case, the acting US attorney for the southern district of New York, the official, resigned in protest against what she characterized as the “exchange”. A key figure, the president's “border czar,” appeared as the enforcer with Adams on Fox News to state: “Unless he complies, I will return in New York City.”. Meanwhile, another figure, earlier the justice department figure and a past legal representative, who arranged the arrangement, was granted an appellate federal judgeship, a potential springboard to the supreme court.

Trump's protection for offenses carried out while in power, provided by the unprecedented ruling of the Republican majority on the highest court, thus thwarting his criminal case over the Capitol riot and safeguarding his political viability for the presidential race, is the basis on which he stands to protect his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been liberated to permit wrongdoing. The effect of the judicial ruling permeates his presidency and the political party completely. The legal case has escalated. Similar to the former president's White House counsel the figure said about the Watergate
